Pool owners can greatly increase their chances of passing the first inspection, while saving time and avoiding unnecessary costs, by completing a pre-inspection check before we arrive. Addressing common compliance issues early helps ensure a smoother inspection process.

The most frequent reasons pools fail safety inspections include:

• Objects positioned too close to the pool fence that can be climbed

• Climbable trees, shrubs, or branches encroaching into restricted zones

• Pool barriers that are too low, unstable, or have excessive gaps underneath- 1200mm min height, 100mm max gap under and between barrier

• Fence panels or structures that can be used as footholds

• Gates that fail to self-close or open inward toward the pool area

• Gate hinges installed less than 900 mm apart, creating a climbable hazard

• Missing, damaged, or non-compliant CPR and resuscitation signage

• Built-in footholds or features that assist climbing barrier
